En estado de sueño o vigilia, la liberación de semen requiere un baño ritual (ghusl). La liberación de semen durante el sueño se conoce como “ihtilam”. Si una persona se despierta después de haber tenido un ihtilam y tiene dudas sobre si la humedad en su cuerpo es semen o líquido preseminal (maz), no es obligatorio realizar ghusl. Puede optar por realizar ghusl si cree que es semen, o simplemente limpiarse y realizar ablución si cree que es maz.
